Teaching and Learning Biology/Life Sciences

So, you want to be a Biology/Life Sciences teacher - What have been your experiences of teaching and/or learning Biology/Life Sciences?

What do think is required for the teaching of Biology/Life Sciences? Justify your response.

Now think about this - The Banana Test

There is a very, very tall coconut tree and there are four animals...

A Lion, A Chimp, A Giraffe  ...AND...A Squirrel

They decide to compete to see who is the fastest to get a banana off the tree.
Who do you guess will win?
Think carefully . .. .
Try and answer within 30 seconds.
Got your answer?

So, this module challenges you to think about the content, context and your role as a teacher/facilitator in the teaching of Biology/Life Sciences and more importantly how learners learn.

We encourage you to talk to Life Sciences teachers and also the 4th year Biology students to share ideas and innovative strategies for teaching and assessing learners. Write notes on this and reflect on it. Also do consider offering your services to assist with teaching at local primary and high schools when you are on holiday (our university  and school terms are different).
